Despite having debuted just last year, Troy Javelona is a rising sensation in the alternative R&B scene. Originally from London, Troy relocated to the coastal town of Plymouth, bringing with him a rich musical heritage with influences from the likes of Tom Misch, Dominic Fyke, Steve Lacey and alternative R&B legend Daniel Caesar. Troy’s fresh take on alternative R&B traditions has been making an impact not just in the UK, but in the indie scene across the globe.
At just twenty-one years old, Troy has already racked up over five and a half million streams on Spotify alone. A viral TikTok featuring “Go Away,” a track from his debut EP Love, catapulted the singer-songwriter into the public eye. Presently, the video boasts over two million views and, attesting to the power of social media when it unearths great music, has earned Troy Javelona a dedicated following.
Since then, Troy Javelona has released a string of self-professed “loverboy-indie” singles. The independent artist writes, records and produces all his music from his bedroom, lacing his creations with a personal and authentic touch. Built on intricate rhythms and emotive melodies, his music has struck a chord with listeners across the globe, with his highest monthly listeners in the US and Bangkok. With his unique blend of influences and pure talent, Troy is a rising star poised for continued success.
His latest EP, For You, is the newest addition to his impressive discography and is already impressing new and existing fans alike. This EP is a showcase of Troy Javelona’s unique alternative R&B sound. Each of the six tracks is bursting with dynamic guitar riffs, catchy hooks and thickly stacked harmonies.
From the upbeat jam “Call Me” brimming with shuffling drums, vibrant guitar and bright vocal hooks to the dreamy downtempo “Baby Come Back,” Troy takes you on a ride through his vivid sonic vision. “Dance” brings an irresistible groove with hazy guitar tones and soulful vocals, while title track “For You” sees him lay down a beat-driven alternative R&B anthem.
The lush tone of “Fantasy” slips into a bouncy hop full of memorable hooks and colourful arrangement before “Letting Go” closes the EP with a mellow, spaced out groover full of gentle melodic leads and crashing drums to deliver the perfect finale to the EP. Commenting on making the EP, he shares, “Creating this EP from my bedroom has allowed me to authentically explore my experiences and emotions. The bedroom is my safe space where I can truly be myself.”
