Happie Hoffman, known by her moniker HAPPIE, is an indie pop artist who’s been making an impact with her soulful voice and emotive performances which have been winning over audiences around the globe for over a decade. Her music presents a vehicle for connection, offering listeners a profound sense of therapeutic release.
Whether on stage at SXSW, the Sundance Film Festival or the Austin City Limits Music Festival, HAPPIE has consistently delivered performances that have impressed and formed lasting bonds with those who attend. Her musical journey began in the indie folk duo Eric & Happie, where she earned recognition for modern takes on traditional Jewish music and love songs that touched hearts worldwide.
With her studio releases as a solo artist, HAPPIE arrived in 2022 with a collaboration with The Human Experience on “All I Needed (Summertime Mix)” which was followed by her single “Heartbreak Season” before dropping her debut EP of the same name which showcased her ability to blend sultry grooves with sleek production while clocking over a million streams. Now, HAPPIE returns with her latest release, a four-track EP titled Real Love, which offers a new chapter in her ongoing musical story. This EP builds on the emotional depth and sonic warmth of her previous work, but it also marks the new iteration of her sound.
Started off with spoken word samples on “Close,” soft acoustic guitar plucks and airy vocalisations form a delicate backdrop as HAPPIE’s elegant vocals gently drift above. Stitching moving melodies and poignant lyricism via a delicate and emotive vocal performance, she crafts a soundscape that gradually builds with the laid back touch of electronic percussion and bright instrumental textures.
The EP’s title song “Real Love” leans into a mellow groove as the intricate tones of acoustic guitar and graceful dance of vocal leads combine to cast a mesmeric sonic spell. With a subtly moody vibe and muted crunch of the beat, HAPPIE’s vocal layers float above the shifting arrangement, resulting in a dazzling example of her compelling artistic output.
“Easy” lays down a delightful sound of stripped back clean guitar and truly beautiful vocal performance before the pattering drums injects energy and sets the track in motion. Flowing with tender vocals that rise to soaring heights, the smooth ebb and flow of the song offers a stunning slice of charming indie pop music.
Closing the EP with the final single “Shooting Star,” HAPPIE has dedicated the song to her father ahead of Father’s Day. With echoes of folk touches in the soothing guitar leads that hover above the acoustic notes, HAPPIE’s exquisite vocals deliver hushed melodies and heartfelt lyrics to offer one last moment of musical bliss on the EP, concluding a sensational new release from this wonderful artist.
Commenting on the EP’s last song, she shares, “Each project represents a chapter of my life, and ‘Shooting Star’ is perhaps the most tender yet. It embodies the lessons of love and wisdom imparted by my father, who always reminds me before a performance to ‘show them your heart.’ This track and the entire EP are my way of doing just that, sharing my heart through music.”
