Coming out of Northern Virginia, Aidan Leclaire grew up at the crossroads of contrasting musical traditions, an intersection that would go on to deeply influence his original sound as an artist. As a singer-songwriter and guitarist, Aidan has always refused to be boxed into any one genre or style, instead, forging his own musical output exactly as he sees it.
His music is a mix of influences, drawing from the rock energy of Arctic Monkeys, the jazz stylings of John Coltrane and the storytelling folk of Jackson C. Frank. His creative process, driven by a love for vivid lyricism, echoes the work of songwriting greats such as Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Isaac Brock and Alex Turner.
Aidan’s musical journey started early, penning his first songs at the age of seventeen and tapping into his emotions and experiences, blending a genuine sense of soulfulness with melodies that stick. Linking up with his band of talented musicians who help bring his sonic vision to life, Aidan made his entrance in 2022 with his debut single “Bring on the Horizon,” which was followed by singles two and three before his first record, DayDreamin.
Now they bring us their latest release with their second EP titled The Spaceman, a six-track release that captures the perfect snapshot of the latest chapter of the Aidan Leclaire Band story. Presenting of fusion of different rock vibes while maintaining a distinct sonic thread throughout, the new EP serves up an enthralling sound from start to finish.
From the first track “Kids Are Talking,” elements of indie rock, pop punk and grunge filter through Aidan’s musical lens to form an anthemic sound that bends from the tender sound of the verses to the explosive burst of energy int he chorus. Brimming with catchy melodic hooks and slick ebb and flow, his songwriting shines while the performance talents of the whole band delivers an epic modern rock jam that’s gripping and memorable in equal measure.
Songs like “Control” present a jangly aesthetic of bright guitar layers and uptempo energy capped by mellow, filtered vocal delivery. With bouncy rhythm and upbeat vibes, it’s a charming indie rock outing full of intricate instrumentation and airy melodic leads. “Blue” slows things down to craft a delicate jazz-inflected sounds cut with bossa nova rhythm and silky melodic leads gliding above the dreamy arrangement.
Closing the release with “Orbiting,” hushed vocals hover above gentle key tones, forming an intimate sound that reveals the tender side of Aidan’s musical output. Offering a mesmeric and moving soundscape, it’s the perfect finale to brings things to a delightful end and wrap up the Aidan Leclaire band’s sensational second EP.
