Hailing from Dallas, Texas, experimental electronic duo DUSA has been been going from strength to strength over the last couple of years. Formed by Luke Forgay and Lydia Stockar, DUSA was born from a shared passion for innovative music production and a desire to create a complete sensory experience that fuses audio and visual storytelling.
Making their artistic entrance in February 2022 with the debut single “Flux,” they’ve since shared several tracks including a collaboration with with Andrew Pascale on “Vale.” Their ethos is built on their integration of sound and sight, making this project as much about visuals as it is about sound.
Now, after a year of growth and relentless creativity, DUSA is ready to unveil their self-titled debut EP, a release that takes the perfect snapshot of their journey so far. The independently released six-track EP showcases DUSA’s highly original style, blending elements of experimental bass, glitch and ambient electronica into a sleek yet unpredictable sound. It’s a daring exploration of texture and tone, where intricate beats meet ethereal soundscapes to create something at once immersive and cinematic.
Started off with the bright, angular sweep of synth textures on opening track “Wish You Were Here,” deep bass tones and atmospheric instrumentation casts an enveloping soundscape before dropping with striking drums and glitching rhythms. Crafting a powerful, beat-driven experience where rattling percussive shots, pounding kicks and a flurry of overlapping synths collide in spectacular fashion, it’s an astonishing display of their extraordinary creativity and exquisite sound design flair.
“Forever” follows with airy swells of dreamy tones and the echo of a winding basslines before the rising percussion ushers in the stuttered snap of electronic energy. Peppered with spliced vocal samples and powerful rhythms, the track presents a deft balance of ethereal moments and impactful sonic intensity. With “Make Me Say,” DUSA lays down a thrilling showcase of forward-thinking electronica where glistening synths and thumping beats flow through an immersive and energising scene.
On “Miss You,” forges a hypnotic sound that gradually builds before launching into an explosive burst of punchy energy, accented by the lively pulse of synths and processed vocal elements. The spacey arrangement of “Lost In Control” develops into an anthemic cacophony of layered synth textures and shaking beats before final track “Tell Me” delivers one last dose of epic experimental electronic music to close a gripping and truly groundbreaking debut EP from this incredible duo on the rise.
Commenting on the release, they share, “The EP represents a year of personal trials transformed into music. Each track embodies a specific challenge we faced and conquered, reflecting our journey to perfect every track. Assembling this EP feels surreal, yet it illuminates a hopeful path forward for the future of DUSA.”
