During the quarantine in April of 2020 electronic music producer Jesse Koolhaas contacted violinist and composer Myrthe van de Weetering for a possible collaboration. They knew each other from a festival years ago and been friends ever since.
Jesse Koolhaas, a soundtrack composer from Amsterdam, The Netherlands with a background in Sonology, had released a couple of albums combining electronic music with jazz and cinematic elements, while Myrthe, classically trained in the violin had also fused her instrument with various musical styles, resulting in the album Dégoût that earned her a spot in the lineup of the prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival.
Originally the plan was to work on one track together, but the collaboration went smoothly and more ideas started to emerge. Before they knew it the Archipelago EP was born.
This cinematic, melancholic world was shaped through exchanging ideas, recordings and disregarding genres. Full of ominous melodic constructions and shifting percussive work, the pair spin a sound of deep atmospheric textures lifted by exquisite string performance and expert production and composition.
