Shea Betts is an ambient electronic musician based in New York City. Born in Edmonton, Canada, he moved to New York by way of Montreal in 2017. Utilising varying time signatures, sequence lengths, and generative methods, the layers of his music change subtly, evolving slowly into new forms.
Now he brings us the new track “Passengers”, lifted from his new album Enna, and inspired by time spent traveling. Slow-moving chords reflect long highways and train journeys, with a swelling arpeggio providing a sense of momentum.
A delicate and blissful composition, “Passengers” ebbs and flows through a dreamy soundscape. The artists influences, such as Nils Frahm, Susumu Yokata and Brian Eno are felt throughout this ethereal piece.
Shea’s first album, 2020’s Sea / Sky, explored the interaction of natural forces, highlighting the contrasting titular themes. His second album, Enna, was inspired by the themes of memory, time, and place, providing an ethereal, contemplative soundscape with slow-moving chords interspersed with shimmering arpeggios.
