Following the release of their debut EP, Nick and Kyle have both made their way furthering their careers in the music industry, although not always together as Tyde. Through live touring, engineering, producing and writing the two have certainly seen personal progression but have seldom found the time to settle back into their project together to embark on a 2nd release.
As with most people, lockdown brought Nick and Kyle’s lives and much of their livelihoods to a halt. This gave the pair an opportunity to spend more concentrated time together making music than they had ever been afforded before.
After forming a bubble, manoeuvring around housemates and partners working from home and sneaking into empty studios whenever they could, they began to form their 2nd EP. Mantra boasts 5 tracks showing the pair’s eclectic influences and splicing them together in true Tyde fashion.
This time round, Tyde returns with the first track of their upcoming EP “Oh.”, released via majestic records. Offering a combination of modern chill electronic music and Lo-Fi HipHop, the new track combines a delicate piano arrangement with laid-back snapping beats and vocal sample shots.
Commenting on the track, the duo offer, “When something or someone leaves without prior warning you are forced to accept it. This song is about the involuntary feeling of acceptance that you inevitably land on when someone leaves your life without prior warning.”
Continuing, “While on an entirely different session, Nick had jammed round this piano loop, while waiting for some people to arrive. After taking it home, sampling it and chopping it up a load it became an almost hypnotic base layer that flowed throughout the entire track without needing to change much at all. This excited us as this was a song based way more on the groove and feel without deviating too much from the main theme. We hadn’t had a track like that before. After experimenting with lots of vocals, various synths, melodies, and structures we reverted to a more simpler form as we felt it had a much stronger impact.”
