CITYGIRL, led by the distinctively moody voice of artist Marisa Ferdenzi, is an alternative rock band from New York City, drawing influences from shoegaze, post-punk, pop and new wave. Their sound is a hazy array of lush and dream-like tones and accelerating beats, featuring the haunting yet uplifting synth work of Allison Jones, immersed in undulating guitar interplay and alluring sad melodies.
Marisa and Allison of CITYGIRL began crafting their sound in 2016 and releasing music in 2019. On stage, the band is joined live by members Matthew Leibowitz (bass), Kyle Duke (guitar) and Aaron Hamel (drums).
Now the band brings us their new single “Sharp Distance, which transmits a world where wonder-inspiring retro pop synths and frenzied psychedelic guitars meet to carry the message of an airy, energetic and forlorn vocal.
Electronic drums drive throughout memories of broken promises and wasted sunsets. Arising eternal in omne trium perfectum (everything that is three is perfect), bright chords and cheeky melodies delight in the comedown from a romance too good to be true.
On “Sharp Distance”, CITYGIRL deliver their moody synthwave sound of expert hook-driven writing and dreamy soundscapes with lofty instrumental interludes.
