Barcelona-based Irish composer, producer, and double bassist David Duffy brings us his first single “Sueno”, lifted from his upcoming L.P Aperture due for release early June.
The first single, and the opening track puts all of the elements of Duffy’s debut solo album in place. Unique uses and processing of his upright bass, hypnotic piano loops, and complex evolving textures using voice, found sound and analog synthesis combine to create this expression of evolving forms, and ambient, pulsating energy.
Duffy’s diverse background ranging from his roots in Jazz, his MA in modern composition and his crossover electro-acoustic work with duo Eat My Noise all feed into this sound. While also combining his experience as a media composer and sound designer, to form something that fuses all of these worlds in one place.
His new release offers a diverse and experimental instrumental soundscape. Meandering synths weave amongst sparse percussive elements with piquant melodic work fluttering above swelling bass to create an intriguing and atmospheric sonic journey.
Commenting on the track, he offers, “Sueño is about awakening or birthing in many ways, which also follows the narrative path the album will take. This low pulsating track was born from this space with a continuous gradual opening and expansion into the light towards the end.”
Continuing, “This album is also about me exploring linear forms in music, and sonically anchoring the tracks in solid driving foundations, to allow me to go a little further out with the textures I can build around that, while in general, allowing me to enjoy and combine my passion as a composer, sound designer and musician simultaneously”
