Founder of GRÅTONE and /grå, prolific remixer, lecturer at the conservatory of Kristiansand, he approaches electronic music through audio manipulation.
The artist began making music on playstation as a child, before graduating onto Ableton live and computer based production at fifteen. Musically, he’s based in repetitive forms, yet open and experienced in improvisation and freedom as well as collaborations.
No the producer links with pianist Kjetil Jerve on the new track “3.2 MIN”. It’s the first of four singles from the upcoming 18-track double album TOKYO TAPES: PIANO RECYCLE, which is dropping on at the end of April.
“3.2 MIN” draws on Scandinavian traditions and merges tendencies from several camps. It Begins with a modern experimental beat and ending up in a nod to dub music.
Kjetil Jerve’s grand piano has been sampled and mangled by Stian and made into an instrument in its own right to craft a textured ambient soundscape that nods to the work of Alva Noto, Ryuichi Sakamoto, with subtle hints of Pantha Du Prince.
