Three Colored Squares is the alias of Andrey Ozornin, a Russian musician from Ekaterinburg, currently based in Amsterdam. A self-professed nerd, the artist takes a standing for a minimal number of sound layers and simpler timbres.
The artist never hides musical ideas behind complex soundscapes. Instead, he expresses them as clearly as possible and then removes everything else, making “naive electronica of straight lines and bright colours”.
He draws influence from IDM and downtempo artists such as Boards of Canada, Bonobo and Trentemøller, but adds more accent on melody than on rhythm.
Now, he brings us his latest release with the track “The Walk In Falling Leaves”, a melodic downtempo electronica piece that’s both calm and driving.
All the lines starting from a kick drum through to the melody have been made on one single FM synth, using the Elektron Model:Cycles to craft the sound. The track is the second single from the producer’s upcoming debut album that’s set to be released on the 1st of April.
