Solo artist based in Manchester, Ifeanyi takes an ambient angle of UK garage and combines this with past experiences in both Shoegaze and Math Rock genres. His new EP combines inspiration from travelling around the ethereal countryside of Norway, with the concrete landscape of Manchester. It explores the feeling of lost time using a steel drum, bass guitar, pots and pans.
Ifeanyi’s work also draws deeply from his practice of Brazilian Jui Jitsu which often manifests itself in a break beat style and alternative time signatures. From granular sampling a marimba to field recording the cityscape, he aims to paint an experimental picture.
Now he brings us his latest release with the track “Météo”. Inspired by the landscapes of Brittany, France, “Météo” is a Downtempo/Uk Garage track written with a handpan, 909 and MS20. Blending driving garage beats with deep sliding bass lines, Ifeanyi creates an atmospheric sound with his new work. Pulsating rhythms build an infectious energy as stretching reverb drenched vocal samples glide above.
Commenting on the track, the artist offers, “To be honest making Météo was a pretty simple process, it was written with my MS20 synth on an afternoon, shortly after coming back from a great run in the morning. On that day the weather was perfect, sunny but brisk. I wanted to capture that morning in a track, this is what came out.”
