Expo 88, otherwise known as Luke Cuerel, is a Meanjin/Brisbane based composer and producer releasing the first taste of his debut EP with single “Refractions” out today.
Drawing on his inspiration as a jazz saxophonist and composer (and a wealth of samples from his previous recordings) “Refractions” is a dark and driving exploration into a more solitary side of the composer. Fusing string sections with pulsing electronic drums and a bending saw bass, Expo 88 aims to create atmospheric beats.
Armed with synthesizers, drums and a wealth of samples from his life as a jazz saxophonist and composer, the project combines Luke’s fondness for electronica with the textures of jazz and orchestral music. His production style moves from ambient and textural to dark and pulsating, all while focussing on crafting a mood inspired by places and histories of the city he calls home.
Luke’s debut EP Refractions is to be released on the 13th of August, and will feature his lighter side on single “Passengers” out the same day.
With his brand new single, the producer delivers a window into his sonic world. “Refractions” offers gliding bass lines with grooving and glitching percussion all wrapped up by his flawless sound design abilities.
