Based in Berlin, singer-songwriter Alla Igityan has developed a musical vision in the quieter, more contemplative sphere of indie folk. Through delicate arrangements and a knack for heartfelt storytelling, she explores the emotions and experiences that often prove difficult to put into words, creating songs that encourage listeners to pause, reflect and find their own connections within her stories. Since making her official artistic entrance in 2017, Alla has gradually introduced audiences to a sound that places intimacy and candid lyricism at its centre.
Her debut single, “Du Uzecir,” marked the beginning of that journey, offering an introduction to an original musical voice that’s continued to develop through a series of subsequent releases. By not rushing towards a specific destination, Alla has allowed her songwriting to shift through a collection of carefully considered musical moments, each contributing to a wider picture of her artistic output.
Her first EP, Things You Think About, which arrived in April last year, brought several of those ideas together, forming a body of work that reflects her interest in the thoughts and feelings that leave a lasting impression. Indie folk has always offered space for stories that don’t necessarily require elaborate production to make their mark and her delicate sound finds its strength in exactly that sense of closeness. The emphasis is on the emotional detail, allowing the songwriting to lead while the instrumentation provides an restraind setting for the stories to play out.

Now she brings us her latest release with her brand new single titled “Then It Hits Me,” a song which turns its attention towards the complicated experience of meeting the right person at the wrong time. It’s a premise that carries an instant emotional tension between the chance of a meaningful connection existing alongside circumstances that prevent it from developing as hoped. Wrapped in a soothing folk setting of laid back acoustic guitar, elegant strings and bright piano plinks, Alla’s alluring voice floats above the arrangement to deliver tender melodies carrying poignant storytelling lyricism.
Brought in by the mellow strums of acoustic guitar, a gentle scene forms as Alla’s hushed vocals enter with picture painting words, crafting an intimate musical moment that’s memorable and meaningful in equal measure. With the soft swell of string textures adding atmosphere and sparse touch of piano notes adding colour to the instrumental fabric, the song glides with lilting rhythmic sway to create a charming and thoroughly moving listening experience from start to finish.
Dashed with the quiet rattle of echoing percussive shots, the intricate ebb and flow results in a mesmeric and truly engaging sound throughout. Showcasing her timeless sound and enchanting performance talent, “Then It Hits Me” sees Alla Igityan deliver another superb outing on her enduring musical adventure. As she continues to go from strength to strength with her studio sound, we can’t wait to see what this exciting singer-songwriter has in store next.
