Two staples of Belgium’s club and beat scenes, DJ Chris Ferreira and producer ShunGu, have joined forces for their debut LP Take The Evil Spirit Away, set to be released on 17th October via Belgian independent label Trading Places Records. Under their new alias Senga Ferreira, the duo offer the first taste of the upcoming LP with the track “Planes of Nature”.
Both hailing from Brussels, producer ShunGu has been dropping cosmic sounding beats since 2012, with an extensive back catalogue of over thirty beat tapes on bandcamp, while Chris Ferreria is one of Brussels most in-demand DJ’s and a resident of the city’s ground-breaking dance organisation C12.
Following a chance meeting at a Musicology and Sound Engineering class, the two bonded over their mutual Detroit house influences, and their favourite project at the time, Detroit supergroup 3 Chairs (Kenny Dixon Jr. AKA Moodymann, Marcellus Pittman, Rick Wilhite and Theo Parrish).
The forthcoming album, Take The Evil Spirit Away, was produced over the span of a year, during 2020’s COVID-19 outbreak and its subsequent lockdowns. The LP was created during a period where spare time was given to all, so the pair focused their energy on developing their sound and loading their frustrations from dance floors being closed into the density of their beats and rhythms.
With the first offering, Senga Ferreira deliver a rhythmically-charged deep house piece with “Planes of Nature”, demonstrating their production chops and penchant for creating grooving club music.
