Scasca is a Saint-Petersburg-based artist creating leftfield beats with subtle sprinkles of lo-fi aesthetics. Drawing inspiration from such artists as Bonobo, Four Tet, Burial and Catching Flies, Scasca creates his uk-influenced downtempo composed of delicate chopped vocal samples, carefully sequenced drums and textured organic soundscapes.
The artist utilises his masterful production to create soothing textures and iridescent atmospheres that’ll put you right in the middle of nature. He takes his name, Scasca, from the Russian word translating to “fairy tale”, and the music itself captures the atmosphere of charmed forests somewhere near the Gulf of Finland. His release artworks also refer to the old vintage books with hand-created illustrations.
After a year on hiatus since dropping his well-received song “Long Distance Call”, Scasca returns to unveil his newest single with the dreamy tune “Migrations”.
Commenting on the new track, he offers, “‘Migrations’ is my second single. If ‘Long Distance Call’ was a kind of lo-fi deconstruction of future garage music, ‘Migrations’ is a step towards breakbeat-influenced downtempo, which evokes associations with Bonobo or Catching Flies.”
Adding, “As with the debut, I paid a lot of attention to textures and noises here, whether it’s glowing chimes, the rustling of leaves, or voice messages that sound through the sea waves. The main element of this track is the blurry wordless vocals – It reminds me of the feeling from my childhood, when the short northern summer ends, I watch the migratory birds fly south and stay for the winter.“
Featuring spellbinding chopped-up vocals, enchanting nature noises, and stirring drums, “Migrations” is a soothing song that brings you peace. Void of lyrics, the listener is forced to take an introspective moment and look inwards, making it a personal experience for anyone who hears it. If one thing’s for certain, “Migrations” will move you.
