Berlin based producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Calcou was raised and educated with Jazz and Funk music. He has been playing Piano since his early childhood and still explores his sonic roots within his contemporary Jazz band White Noise Trio.
While acoustic music trained him as a classical composer and arranger, turning to electronic music first let him discover the production side of music. Filter, oscillators and noise immediately grabbed his attention and made him challenge his very own approach to writing music.
Now led by sound and vibe rather than theory and harmony, he began producing his first electronic tracks. Ambiences, moods and shapes started to determine his sound, embracing an organic, handmade touch. With his classical training and self taught exploration of electronic music, Calcou is where Jazz meets Chill and Deep House blends into Electronica.
The German artist now brings us the latest taste of his upcoming EP Places with the second single of the release “Above”. True to his style of deep grooving downtempo music, his latest track offers an atmospheric and rhythmic composition crafted with a snapping beat, shimmery bells, combined with a driving legato bass and peppered throughout with pulsating staccato synth lines.
Commenting on the track, he offers, “This one is mainly about exploring space and the different dimensions it has to offer to music.”
