New York-based indie outfit Meyru are back with new music after over two years of touring and writing. The band teamed up with Sam Skinner (Pinegrove, Forth Wanderers) in addition to long-time collaborator and Brooklyn-based producer Cal Maro on their upcoming album. After the success of the first single, “Playing This Alone”, the group are back with a new single, “I’d Ask…But I Know You’re Alright.”
As the band notes, “I’d Ask…But I Know You’re Alright” is a bit of a sardonic, guitar-driven pop song highlighting the stress that comes with the music industry. But where a lesser band would let the joking nature get out of hand, Meyru keep a coolness that shows “jaded” isn’t part of their vocabulary. The psychedelic nature of the guitar riffs and tight, yet a bouncy drums and bass combo keeps things grounded. While the struggle is real, Meyru feel loose and free on “I’d Ask…But I Know You’re Alright.”
Commenting on the track, they offer, “’I’d Ask’ is our love letter to the band. As we get older and continue to play together, sometimes there’s a stress that comes along with ‘trying to make it’ in music. This song is is our light hearted reminder that everything’s all good and to not take anything too seriously. It’s the pop song of the record.”
After self-recording their debut album, Good to See You, the band supported its release with a series of sold-out shows all over New York City, San Francisco, Atlanta, DC, and Charlotte. The album’s single “She” found breakaway success on streaming platforms, allowing Meyru to reach a truly global fanbase.
Now Meyru is putting the finishing touches on a new album. In contrast to their first record, the band chose to record each song entirely live with the intention of bringing out the true energy felt in their live shows. Meyru will be performing their new work throughout 2021. And having played sold out venues form New York to San Francisco, the band is calling on everything they know to bring fresh life to this second album. Its a nod to their ’90s influences; its stripped down when compared to their debut release. This sophomore album is about a band finding its footing in the vibe of live recording.
