Israeli-German producer and drummer DISCOID takes his name after a knee condition (Discoid Meniscus), it is said that he has the ability to forecast the weather by feeling pain in his knee. Working closely with the multicultural artist Gyozan and the upcoming groundbreaking artist La Mer, under the De Zee Music alias, they have gained momentum in fringe venues and concerts, playing in farms and house gardens across rural Israel.
After several performances in numerous venues in the city of Tel Aviv, live sets, radio features, and a full-length album release, the electronic artist has cemented his reputation as an exciting up and coming Israeli artist.
Besides his work on DISCOID endeavours, he’s used his creative force on a range of exciting new projects. Such as creating music for the HEARTBRAIN installation, presented at Midburn (the Israeli Burning Man) as well being the curator of the installation’s soundtrack, alongside creator, producer, and DJ Peter Spacey.
Now he brings us a new release that marks a departure from his previous musical mehtods. Since releasing his debut album Creatures and Machines, the producer decided to change his workflow – abandoning the computer and instead, using synthesisers and drum machines. The new single, “Movable Objects”, was composed, produced and performed solely using synth and percussion hardware.
Switching the digital sound for the analog warmth and quantised feel, he’s made this unique dance track stand out from the his earlier work, and brings forth a new signature sound. Using his talent of exceptional sound design, on “Movable Objects”, DISCOID lays down an inventive journey into his creative vision. A flurry of synths rattle over dynamic rhythms to create a truly impressive and original electronic sound.
His inspirations from artists such as Four Tet, Leon Vynehall, Floating Points and Galcher Lustwerk are readily apparent, yet the producer still crafts his own original sound. Adding some IDM flare to the track, he peppers the track with a Roland TR-8 scatter function, adding an air of unpredictability as the machine splices and spits out beats chosen without method.
DISCOID now looks ahead in 2022 to playing new live sets, arranged on his custom synth setup, all over Israel as he continues to produce and collaborate with all kinds of forward-thinking artists.
