Four piece rock outfit Wake The Sun tread the line between hard hitting in-you-face guitar music and melody-driven vocal lines with delicate poise. Exhibiting nuances on blues, southern stomp, psychedelia and soul all rolled into one, they deliver a vintage rock sound with east-coast grit resulting in a sound fans of The Black Keys, Royal Blood, or Kings of Leon will relish.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Foo Fighters and Rival Sons, they offer a refreshing blend of modern and alt rock while harkening back to the vintage vibes of retro legends like The Who and Led Zeppelin.
Recently they’ve worked with acclaimed producer-engineer Mike Watts, who’s credits include The Dillinger Escape Plan, Glassjaw and Hail The Sun, at the renowned Long Island Studio, Vudu Studios. Their latest offering from the studio sessions comes with the single “Deep Blue Skies”, a raucous rock outing that’s both instantly catchy and potently raw, channelling a sound akin to Dead Poet Society.
The track is fuelled by the dynamic and impassioned vocals of Dillon Mealey (Vox/guitar) and emblazoned by the fiery onslaught of lead guitarist James Rubino who adds blistering wah-drenched leads throughout. Locked in and driven by Jeff Alvarado’s rock-solid, the thunderous bass playing combines with the explosively prodigious performance by Andres Valbuena (of The Lemon Twigs) on drums.
Commenting on the track, the band offers, “Deep Blue Skies is about how aspects of one’s past can oftentimes impact our decisions for the future. And that it is important to realise that most, if not all of what we do is influenced by past trials and tribulations. The song elucidates the relevance of acknowledging those experiences but also depicts the importance of moving forward.”
Accompanying the single is a music video directed by prolific filmographer Tom Flynn perfectly reflecting the music’s energy in visual form from the hectic moments to the hazy.
