Berlin-based singer and poet Anita Goß releases music under the ANIQO alias, with a commitment to minimalism and an appetite to blend light and dark in innovative songs, she forges her own unique sound that oscillates somewhere between the genres of dark wave, psychedelic rock and folk.
Having already worked with a range of industry leaders such as Joe Cardamone – who has produced and collaborated with artists such as Mark Lanegan, Warren Ellis of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds and The Stooges’ former member James Williamson – she’s set to drop her debut album BIRTH via the SPRINGSTOFF imprint in March. Working with bandmates Torsten Füchsel and Illia Vovk, her new album has seen Guy Sternberg (Keane, Feist, Yoko Ono, Kings of Convenience) handle the majority of the production.
With a taste of the upcoming album and the production collaboration with Guy Sternberg, ANIQO brings us the new single “Balance”. Threading her delicate dark wave indie styles with her penchant for the psychedelic, she spins a dazzling sonic tapestry full of elegant melodic writing and graceful vocal work.
Delightful and at times eerie, “Balance” offers a stirring and touching sound full of dark light moments and fine musical elements.
Commenting on the track, she offers, “Balance sums up everything for me that the upcoming album will be about. It is one of the first songs I wrote under the pseudonym ANIQO. It is also about origin in a metaphorical sense.”
Adding, “If we understand that thoughts and feelings arise within ourselves, we are also able to understand that we shape our future with them – we are entirely responsible for that. No one can close the inner wounds except oneself. For that, you have to embrace your own inner child to balance oneself. For that, you have to embrace your own inner child to balance negative emotions.”
