Hailing from Adona, Arkansas, Anri Abernathy is a trans woman who takes the bedroom pop genre to a new level. Influenced by the likes of Porter Robinson, Lena Raine and In Love With A Ghost, Anri spins a rich tapestry of sonic textures in her music.
Having first ventured into the world of music production in high school by making music on a computer on software for making video game music, she’s carried that electronic digital 8-bit style into her current sound. Championing innovative creativity, unconventional sources are often used to add originality and colourful flair, such as foley recordings captured on a Nintendo DS microphone and a piece of electronic background hum recorded and manipulated into a synth sound.
Recorded entirely in her bedroom, her debut album relief perfectly captures the fun electronic sound of her vision. With dynamic energy shifts across the album, glitching beats add playful surprises as the framing of the music flutters between both melancholic and optimistic outlooks.
As an artist who’s battled with mental health issues, the album is party inspired by her struggling and overcoming those experiences. A truly piquant blend of synth-based instrumentation paired with spaced-out spliced vocal lines makes relief a delight from start to finish with a sound that’s entirely original.

Since the release of relief, Anri has followed up the LP with a brand new single, titled “cloudcatching”. With the new track, she paints a delicate and vibrant electronic picture. Light and breezy, “cloudcatching” lays down a splashy sound of stuttering rhythms, bright vocal touches, peppered with an array of vivid synthesised tones.
