Ghanaian reggae artist Tradition Man Wolo brings rhythm to your ears and a smile to your face with his upbeat reggae sounds. An avid student of the reggae music, he’s influenced by the genre’s pioneers and founding artists such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Jimmy Cliff as well as lovers rock reggae stars like Gregory Isaacs and Beres Hammond. He describes his music as, “soothing, affectionate, honest and approachable even with difficult subjects.”
Now living in Seattle, he started his musical journey writing songs and playings gigs in high school, which led to him teaming up with friends to play shows on local college campuses. With his debut album, titled Raggae Man, he shared a nine track introduction full of jamming grooves, breezy vocal lines and colourful instrumentation.
On the album, he shares, “Reggae Man is a multi-themed album, covering roots and consciousness (Come Home, Back Again), intellectual (Book Of Rules), love (This Your Rebound Love, Lady In Red) and playfulness/party (This Feeling, Reggae Man Skank)… I want people to embrace the breadth of the album and the genre.”
With the lead single of the album, he brings us the track “Back Again”. A truly international creation, the vocals were recorded at Undercaste Studios in Shoreline, Washington, production and mixing were handled by Bobby Roy in Stockholm, Sweden with the mastering done by Mike Caplan at Lion and Fox Studios, in Washington DC.
Inspired by recent events in the USA, the song offers powerful meaning with reference to racial injustice and a call to action for people to reject segregational politics. Opening with the lyrics; “Slavery days have come back again like a gun shot, in a different style…” it sets the tone for tackling serious issues while wrapped up in Tradition Man Wolo’s perfectly crafted reggae sonic setting.
