North London rapper Flamma – short for ‘flammable’ – chose his alias before going on to become a firefighter, perhaps by chance or maybe it was fate. The hip hop artist, of Turkish-Cypriot origin, suffered trauma in his early life when he was stabbed by a gang in a case of mistaken identity during postcode wars in his area of the city.
Lucky to survive, the incident changed his perception of life and gave him new motivation and focus which ripples through his music; he also covered themes of the experience on his track “Rise”. With his razor-sharp flow he delivers his lyrical depth with keen use of clever word-play and puns, sometimes so intricately disguised they only appear after several listens, providing hidden surprises in his music.
Building on the momentum of his studio releases which pair the best of his fiery personality and his life experiences he’s also a prolific live performer as he offers increasingly raw shows as he develops his stage presence. Now he brings us his recent single, “No Patience”, which once again sees the London artist lay down his high-octane bars over a beat-heavy track.
Covering the frustration experienced when your goals take longer to achieve that you had hoped, “No Patients” in an anthem for determination and stamina. His trademark intelligently crafted lyrical writing is poured into the song, wrapped up by his rhythmically perfect vocal work.
