New York City singer-songwriter Angela Sclafani has so far independently released three stellar EPs with History, Your Ghost and Blossom as well as Edge of Seventeen which was an EP of reimagined Stevie Nicks hits. With her writing style of confessional and honest lyrics, delivered by her powerful and passionate vocals, she’s found recognition by twice winning the Great American Songwriting Contest and was a 2021 finalist in the Unsigned Only Music Competition.
As a versatile creative talent, she works between both the music and theatre worlds in a career that’s seen her work and perform with renowned artists including Todd Almond, Courtney Love, Shaina Taub, Liz Swados, Heidi Rodewald and Years & Years.
As well as receiving various plaudits for her songwriting, her work has been performed to audiences at well-known venues such as The Beacon Theater, The Theater at Madison Square Garden, Feinstein’s/54 Below, Ars Nova, and Rockwood Music Hall.
Now she brings us her recent single, titled “Bell Jar”. Inspired by Sylvia Plath’s 1963 novel, the new track utilises literary imagery to encourage the listener to shatter the conventions that hold them down, whatever they may be; family, relationships or state of mind.
Working with producer and songwriter Katie Buchanan who features on production and instrumentation, with “Bell Jar”, Angela Sclafani once again offers a hook-driven indie folk work that’s both empowering and thoroughly enjoyable to listen to.
