Santa Cruz-based musician Ryan Settles creates catchy synth pop music under the Far West alias. He started this new solo project in 2019 while his other band was taking a brief hiatus and starting releasing music the following year.
An artist full of creativity and ideas, he’s already dropped ten tracks in that time, building a fan base of listeners who relish his hook-driven writing, warm and nostalgic synth tones and colourful guitar work. He cites his influences as artists such as The 1975, Day Wave, Naked and Famous and M83, inspirations which can be heard in his sound that offers infectiously catchy music with bags of commercial appeal.
Now he brings us his latest single with the new track “It Feels New”, carrying on his trademark sound of rhythmic indie pop wrapped up in smoky sonic textures and summer vibes. A hazy synth-based jam peppered with jubilant sax leads, on “It Feels New”, Far West shows why his solo project is one to watch going forward.
