Swiss pianist, composer and producer Marc Méan currently resides in the city of Zürich where he bases himself as he extensively tours Europe with all kinds of projects ranging from jazz with his own band Taïga, psychedelic rock with the collective Service Fun, experimental improvised music with his duo with Tobias Meier and even electro pop with the band True. An artist who wears many hats, he also finds time to work on his solo music, where he offers his creativity in the ambient electronic space.
With his solo work, he’s previously released three full length collections of music that explores the balance between acoustic piano work with electronic instrumentation. Delivering truly immersive sonic atmospheres, with his music he crafts stunning cinematic soundscapes that show the very best of his musical imagination.
Now he brings us his latest release with the new album titled Rituals, with nine tracks of breathtaking dreamy compositions of dazzling originality. Released on cassette tape and on streaming services by the label Tone Burst, on Rituals Marc Méan recorded four organs that he then ran electronic processing over to create unique textural sounds.
Recorded during three nights using those organs, the whole album is a result of his improvisation, creating an ethereal environment for the listener to get lost amongst. Before producing the album, he asked himself a question, “In the summer of 2021, a thought came to me: What if I tried to mix church organs with electronics?”
Adding, “I had never really played such huge instruments and I always wanted to try it. I had already tried to mix the acoustics of the piano with electronics in my past solo albums but this time I wanted to explore another keyboard instrument. In September 2021, I had the opportunity to play and record the 4 organs of the Saint-Laurent church in Lausanne and record them.”
