Based in Joshua Tree, California, Firebug is the alternative rock outfit formed by multi-instrumentalists Juliette Tworsey and Jules Shapiro. The pair met in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighbourhood when a mutual friend suggested they combine to make music together due to their shared tastes and influences. Adding to the line up, the band then moved to LA where they cut their teeth on live performances at esteemed venues like The Viper Room and The Echo.
After recording their debut album, Season For Change, the group changed scenes and moved to New Orleans where they worked on their follow up sophomore record Wandering Soul released via Spectra Records. Making another move, they then found themselves in the picturesque landscape of Joshua Tree where they also completed the lineup with Joseph Noval on Bass and drummer Matt Lucich.
It was here they began work on their most recent music and enlisted renowned engineer Charlie Stavish whose credits include Starcrawler and Imagine Dragons. After penning a new deal with M & O Music, they now bring us their latest album, titled No Return.
Recorded and mixed at The Clocktower Recorders in Joshua Tree, No Return sees Firebug at their very best. Drawing on their influences of classic rock acts such as Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Cream they offer their own unique modern sound that nods back to their inspirations from yesteryear. Their nomadic-style journey as a band runs through the sound across the album with a firm desert rock style and sprinkles of New Orleans.
With their latest full-length, Firebug aims to take the listener on a journey to a place that traverses the time and space continuum by connecting the audience to the past and to the present while moving toward the future of our existence. Big grooving guitar riffs, impassioned vocal work and thumping rhythms all combine to create a swaggering sound on an album that sees Firebug showing no signs of slowing down.
