Veteran German-Italian musician and composer Julian Petrin has had a stellar musical career that spans more than three decades. Flowing between different styles and ways of making music, his vast catalogue of creations is now being re-published piece by piece.
He founded his first band in Düsseldorf in the 1980s, before then moving to Munich in the early 90s where he began writing electronic stage music for independent theatre groups, much of which was composed in Hamburg, the city that he’s called home since 1993. Originally raised on jazz music, he became passionate about the piano as a student of the instrument and discovered pioneering artists such as Jean-Michel Jarre, Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sylvian who he drew influence from.
Building bridges between neo-classical music, ambient soundscapes and downtempo electronica, he uses his extensive musical knowledge and experience to create his own compositions of an entirely original style. With piano at the forefront, delicate textures from additional instruments and a knack for crafting expansive sonic worlds, his sound can be described as cinematic instrumental pop.
Now he brings us his latest release with the new single titled “Les Folies”. The new track opens a series of releases set to drop throughout 2022 and offers a buoyant piano-led sound full of playful melody and blissful character. As the days grow longer, the birds start to sing and the flowers blossom once again, with “Les Folies”, Julian Petrin invites the listeners to enjoy the first glimpses of spring.
