In the vibrant artistic community of Hackney in London, you’ll find the young singer-songwriter Benjamin David. Drawing on diverse influences from David Bowie, Prince and Kate Bush to Kendrick Lamar and Rage Against The Machine, he crafts his own unique brand of anthemic rock pop.
Growing up surrounded by a family of musicians, he started recording 4-track demos at just eleven years old. He went on to graduate from The BRIT School and began performing regularly in the clubs of London such as The Bedford, The Half Moon, The Spice Of Life and The Troubadour.
With his writing he covers themes of political upheaval in the world and how young people can find their place in it. More recently he’s written about his encounter with grief following the recent death of his father.
He’s just released a new single, titled “Temporary Lovers”, a song about the pain of losing someone and the challenges of moving on without them. Written from his mother’s perspective as a final farewell to her partner, the track is the first in a series of singles created with local producers and video artists Lorenz Okello-Osengor and Mark Kamara.
With a powerful soul rock sound, on “Temporary Lovers” Benjamin David delivers a painfully emotive sonic eulogy full of soaring vocals and piquant guitar leads. With more singles lined up for this year, he’s got plans to release his debut album with Grammy-winning producer Kipper.
