Melbourne-based artist Jade Empress knows more than most how extraordinarily difficult recent times have been; she worked as a doctor through the global pandemic. Being on the frontline and seeing the devastating impact up close would take its toll on anyone and it was in music that this artist sought escape with songwriting becoming a much needed outlet.
When it comes to Jades Empress’ sound, her gentle vocal work carries her catchy writing above a delicate arrangement of indie pop instrumentation. With a style akin to artists such as Lana Del Rey, Florence and the Machine and London Grammar, Jade Empress delivers a melodic style that draws influence from the likes of Joan Armatrading, Joni Mitchell, Ella Fitzgerald and David Bowie.
She now brings us her introduction as an artist with the debut single “Golden Hours”. Featuring heartfelt and powerful vocals, she pens an ode to commitment-phobia where the main goal is not to flee but to chase into an endless sunset.
With three more singles lined up for release throughout this year, “Golden Hours” is a stunning first venture to her sound from an artist that has so much to offer. Commenting on the debut track she shares, “It’s loving things that are gone and things that never were. It’s about missing things that could never have been, while remaining endlessly optimistic and excited for whatever is around the next corner.”
