Inspired by the peaceful Scandinavian landscapes, the musical project Malmö takes its name from this famous Swedish city, a place of exchange and dialogue connecting Denmark via the Oresund detroit.
Through his compositions, the Parisian producer creates tactful melodies which are finely cadenced by wooly beats. Ambient, electronica, and felted techno are joined together to give life to evading tracks.
Lifted from the Phil EP, his new track “La Cascade” perfectly captures his ambient sound and ability to craft dreamy soundscapes of textured instrumentation. Phil is the character condemned to live tirelessly the same day in Groundhog Day, Harold Ramis’ movie which was released in 1993.
Commenting on the new release, the artist offers, “The feeling of time suspending itself, every morning resembling the one before, that’s what I felt during those two lockdowns that we had in France, in March and November 2020.”
Continuing, “During this time, I spontaneously wrote tracks, on the moment, without taking a step back, letting out my feelings and emotions. I wanted to regroup those lockdown tracks as one EP: Phil.”
A delicate sonic journey, whirling synth sounds and stripped back rhythms combine to create a piece that represents the repetition of lockdown life as experienced by the composer.
