Phouelisi is the musical alias of Joe Bamisile who plays college basketball by day and produces and sings in his free time. Last year he played for Virginia Tech last year but this upcoming year he’ll be joining George Washington University. On his stage name, he explains, “The Pho is from Joseph. The Elisi is from my last name, Bamisile. I picked the back half of my name because my music is a different side of myself. The U is what connects the listener to me. Without ‘U’ the listener, I wouldn’t be the artist.”
When he’s not competing on the court, he’s making music and can create a track in under three hours on a good day. Drawing influence from the likes of Aries, Still Woozy and Drake, he also dips into Japanese Rock for inspiration.
With his latest drop, he brings us the new track “Fly Wavy”, the title track of a three song EP released this month. The new track is an upbeat jam full of laid back rhythms. Commenting on the song, the artist offers, “The song is about how sometimes our minds can stop us from being in love and sometimes it takes being confused and arguing things out to really know how we feel.”
