Swedish-born, UK based artist Roleplay (the project of Anna Haara Kristoferson) is a multi-instrumentalist who spent her childhood in choir academies. Roleplay is the artist’s first solo project outside of her ventures as lead vocalist in Yassassin.
Now Roleplay releases the follow up to her BBC Radio 1- supported debut “Jingle Bells”, with the single “My Sun”. Roleplay’s alluring melodies and dreamy lyrics recall Madonna’s William Orbit era whilst playing with the stylistics of catchy 90s pop. Together with cinematic string arrangements and electronic beats she creates a shimmering sonic soundscape that is the perfect summer soundtrack.
Commenting on the track, she offers, “‘My Sun’ embodies the ecstasy of reuniting with a lost love,” says Haara Kristoferson. “I, like many others, felt very isolated during 2020 and writing songs was my way of dealing with that loneliness. I think music has such an immens power to influence our mood, so by dreaming up and creating something hopeful, I stayed sane.”
Recorded and produced by Haara Kristoferson at her home studio overlooking the sea in Margate, “My Sun” was mixed by James Greenwood (Foxes, Daniel Avery) and mastered by John Davis (Gorillaz, Lana Del Rey). The accompanying artwork is a bespoke painting by multi artist Tess Parks (Anton Newcombe, The Brian Jonestown Massacre).
