Experimental music from Häana

Häana is a one-woman orchestra, combining music, technology +=and art with Nordic/Icelandic influences set to a broken beat, often featuring avant-garde ballerinas in her stage shows and music videos. Her original productions are like a dynamic film score.

Häana counts Massive Attack, Björk, and Trentemøller as influences in crafting her sounds, featuring electronica influences, synthetic sonority, and vocal textures. The resulting sonic palette takes listeners on a journey whose destination is a crossroads between classical and contemporary, organic & man-made, familiar and mysterious.

Now the experimental artist brings us her latest release with the track “Snow”, inspired by a Nordic Fairy Tale: The Snow Queen. Samples of recorded snow and icicles captured in Alaska are incorporated into the beginning to immerse the listener in an otherworldly crystalline landscape. The lyrics are abstract and reinterpreted. The snow queen views herself in a star mirror, which shatters, while she is finding her way, returning to the stillness and silence of the snow blanketing the earth.

A neo-classical string trio composed and orchestrated by Häana, echoes sentiments of love and longing. The climax arrives with a dark minimal tech dance party to close it out, juxtaposed with ethereal vocals singing: “I closed my eyes, and dreamt of you. Frozen in time, weightless and true. Cover the stones, blanket of white. Cover the stones, silent as night.”

Offering a sound that oozes originality, Häana is finding her voice and really diving deep into the strength of her vision and power of her art.

While in the desert celebrating this release, Haana is reinventing and finding herself in the expansiveness of the desert. Häana is inspired by deep dives into the inner landscape, doing a 40-day meditation journey, and finding her muse in the deepest loveliest of places.
