Techno and experimental music artist, Charles Oliver, hails from Melbourne, Australia. His sound incorporates heavy industrial beats, glitchy abstract percussion, laced with evocative melodies. So far his music has received support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Faithless and Maceo Plex. In 2017, his debut EP Heights hit the Top 10 Techno Chart and Top 100 on Beatport globally earning him plaudits from tastemakers and new fans the world over.
This year, his singles “Correction”, “Blind” and “Fragility” have gained plays across Kiss FM UK, as well as Australia’s Triple J Radio. Along with featuring on Decoded Magazine, AAA Backstage and Proton Radio, the producer has already cut his teeth across Australia’s largest festivals and clubs, warming up for the likes of Extrawelt, Max Cooper and Sebastian Mullaert.
Following on from his impressive single “Saturation Of Self”, he brings us his latest release, with the single “Invasion” lifted from his new Saturation Of Self EP. The track builds out of shuffled percussive patterns that heighten the anticipation before thumping industrial kicks and a brutal off-kilter bass line land with considerable impact and stunning clarity. Another otherworldly delivery from one of Australia’s hottest new talents.
On the new track, he demonstrates his panache for delivering crunching atmospheric electronic journeys. Oliver’s production ability shines through once again, with layers of brooding melodies and assertive drum work creating a captivating and deeply emotive soundscape.
Commenting on the new track, he offers, “’Invasion’ stems from the idea of breaking genres. The track takes a little bit of every techno-influenced genre and invades its identity. I love putting elements together that don’t traditionally stick and try to make them work. The bass line defines this, as it initially sounds a little bouncy or boppy, though as it distorts and mutates over time it turns the track into something more heavy and driving.”
Adding, “I had a lot of fun experimenting with this concept of “genre invasion”, as it strongly captures the sonic foundation of this EP.”
