Kendl is an Australian electronic musician who creates electronic music that instils a human aesthetic and natural, emotionally charged flow. Having grown up in a musical household littered with instruments, he found his solace in music at a very young age. Instead of learning how to read sheet music, however, the artist was more intrigued by freely playing instruments and allowing his imagination to create beautiful sounds and textures. It was a way to help him manage his anxiety throughout childhood. This free flow approach has directly shaped his sound and the way he writes music today.
Kendl’s transcendent and ethereal style of music is created utilising a small collection of electronic and acoustic instrumentation from his home studio in Melbourne. An important part of his creative process is the recording of his ever-growing object and location sounds, which contributes to the tone and emotive nuances in his work. So much can be felt and expressed in just a few minutes and Kendl aims to share music that can have a lasting, positive effect on the listener just as music has done for himself.
“I believe that music is one of the highest forms of inner communication with the soul. I hope that my music can speak to listeners and instil a sense of being and connectedness as I have found for myself on this journey,” he offers.
Following on from his September release “Near – Far” the producer now returns with his latest track, “Soak”, the second release from a trio of singles being released this year. As you’re submerged into a meditative trance, introverted melodies float and weave in and out of each other as a propulsive rhythm moves the energy forward.
Commenting on the new release, he says, “Being in lockdown for so long I was having trouble finding inspiration and I felt as though I had nothing to pull from. Over the past couple of years, I’ve had to dig deeper within myself, which has inspired the new music. Soak is about finding moments of stillness and igniting and connecting with your inner spirit.”
His deftness in harnessing and producing music with emotional impact has been evident throughout his discography and has intensified through each musical project. His obsession for emotive timbres and the piecing together of unique sound fragments that resonate within himself to create a personal story for the listener has progressed his music by leaps and bounds.
Kendl continues to blur the boundaries between avant-garde and mainstream electronic music. He utilises his Yamaha upright piano as well as a small range of organic and electronic instruments and improvised recordings as he continues to carve his own lane in Australia’s electronic music scene and abroad.
