Essex based electronic duo BE, comprised of vocalist Shel Cribben and multi-instrumentalist Marc Barnacle, came together after a strong friendship, blossomed into a musical relationship. Having first collaborated in 2015, they paused their work together to focus on other music projects, leaving behind some rough recordings and ideas. However they reconnected 4 years later, and as other projects were iced, they had more time to work on their endeavour together as BE.
Commenting on their collaboration, they offer, “With a shared history of long term activity in the local music scene and a diverse range of influences acquired along the way, we came together to create something unique to us.”
Drawing on their shared influences of bands such as Portishead, The Cure, Radiohead, Caribou and Arcade Fire, they create an alternative synth pop sound that’s entirely their own.
Following a string of singles released over the last year, they now bring us their latest track “If You”. Their new release is an exquisite and graceful piece, full of atmosphere and reflective emotions. A stunning arrangement of synths and strings wind through the song, with a tender vocal delivery adding to the atmosphere of the sound.
On the new single, they share, “If You is about the heartache of loss, the emotions and confusion that linger after something has ended, the defiance of not wanting to let go, and finally the honesty of true reflection and acceptance to move through it all with two fingers in the air… It’s a whole journey of emotions.”
Having had their live performance plans disrupted with the event over the last 2 years, they’re now rehearsing their songs with gigs on the horizon for this year.
