Originally hailing from Toronto and now based in Waterloo, JP Sunga passes his time crafting his own brand of pop music. His songwriting catalogue is thick, spanning over two decades with influences from a range of various genres. Previously recognised as one of Canada’s top independent artists, JP is currently recording his debut full-length album.
After a handful of well-received singles, the multi-award nominated Canadian artist now dives into the themes of self-redemption and rediscovery, inspiring listeners across the board to achieve closure and renewal with his astounding new single, “Dirty Water”.
The new single features a blissful tapestry of textured instrumentation that pair perfectly with the explosion of joyful voices that are featured in the background. Adding to his own vocal performance, he linked up with the US-based gospel vocal group STEMS Music to add a soulful flare and deliver an audible masterpiece that is as transcending as it is powerful. His songwriting panache shines brightly on “Dirty Water”, with which he delivers an anthemic and uplifting sound on this worthy folk pop piece.
Accompanying the single is a stunning and cinematic music video. The music video, directed by Adam Bloemink and filmed on location at Manitoulin Island, ingeniously demonstrates both the struggle of moving forward and the exhilaration of making peace with your past, and you are enriched with a truly unforgettable experience.
Commenting on the new track, he offers, “Many of us tend to collect, carry, and keep baggage as we journey through our lives from negative experiences we’ve endured, and it can really start to wear us down mentally, emotionally and even physically.”
Continuing, “‘Dirty Water’ is about self-renewal; allowing oneself the courage to accept, and the strength to heal and progress from the hurt, burdens, and regrets of their past.”
