Moon and Aries is the synth pop opera duo formed by a collaboration between Canadian singer-songwriter Jordana Moon and German electronic synthesiser musician and composer Tom Aries. From the moment of inception, this collaboration became a very exciting and energising project. The pair draw on their contrasting musical backgrounds to create their unique and inventive sound of dreamy indie pop.
The cooperation, originally beginning in March 2021 by communicating over the internet, despite the gulf in time difference, sees their abilities work in harmony with Tom offering his instrumental and arrangement craft and Jordana’s lyrical and vocal work taking their compositions to the next level. They’ve so far released 6 songs to date, lifted from their upcoming debut LP, set to drop in April.
Jordana’s approach to music is to mix a higher level of consciousness and concepts and bring these more philosophical ideas to modern music. She composes her music with a wide variety of instruments, playing the
piano, acoustic guitar, bass, mandolin, ukelele and violin, while drawing inspiration from old jazz, 70s and 80s soul, pop, R&B music, trip hop and current neo soul.
On the other hand, Tom is composer of mostly instrumental tracks, analog and digital synthesiser sequences. His music fuses his classical piano education with influences stemming from synth sounds of the 80s and draws influence from artists such as Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Jean-Michel Jarre, Massive Attach, Portishead and Röyksopp. He’s previously released his own songs as a solo artist under the Galaxy of Night pseudonym.
Commenting on their sonic partnership, they offer, “We hold similar outlooks on life. We love the same music, the same movies and enjoy long, intriguing rabbit holes. So we are thinking; let’s keep going with this collaboration because we think it will give us a great foundation to explore our creative instincts, our highest message and share our truest artistry.”
Adding, “We are enjoying our magical music journey through a never ending Universe of tones like stars!”
Now they bring us their latest single, with the track “Cold”. Their latest work is a blissful and delicate dream pop piece. Colourful synth work and subtle rhythms underpin the mesmerising vocal lines as the track weaves through an elegant progression.
