Formed in London in 2019 by Alex Barty-King, indie rock outfit DAAY is currently made up of a 6 piece who regularly rehearse in the city. Under entirely different line ups behind Barty-King, their first 3 songs covered the theme of birth of the band. With new members, Barty-King aims to challenge more adult themes of philosophic enquiry as the band moves forward.
DAAY utilise a truly unique blend of indie rock and pop songwriting layered with jazz undertones and powerful sax parts that cut through with curiosity, whilst using a strong lyrical theme reflecting on the simple and transformative beauty of the journey of life, all adding to a sound that oozes originality and charm.
Drawing influence from an eclectic mix of artists such as Julian Casablancas, John Grant, MGMT, Submotion Orchestra and Pink Floyd, they create an indie melody-driven sound like no other.
Now they bring us their latest release with the single “Forever”, the follow up to “Dream Kit”. Commenting on the concept of the track, they offer, “Forever is an attempt to understand what the notion of forever might actually mean if it’s true that we do exist as infinite consciousness as according to most religions and esoteric practices. After we’ve woken up from a dream, we seek to explore our situation, thus exploring the concept of forever.”
Another branch into experimental alternative rock, “Forever” fuses ideas from alt-rock, jazz and pop to create a psychedelic kaleidoscope of sonic exploration.
DAAY plan to release another 2 singles in in the near future, with the tracks “Golden Tree” and “Flight”. The former promises to be a big and heavy meditative jazz song about the tree of life.
