Italian artist MYKY creates infectiously energetic synth-based pop music full of colour and spacey vibes, channeling the sounds of The Weeknd. Consistently delivering music to fans all over the world, he’s so far released a bunch of singles as well as two full length albums with 2018’s My Key and Mars the following year.
Now he returns with part one of his latest work, the mini-album, Gemini (Part I Castor), with title referring to an idea of duality. Part one bears the name of Castor, one of the Dioscuri, the twin sons of Zeus and Leda. The myth tells that when Castor the warrior died in battle, his brother Pollux the boxer begged his father Zeus to allow him to cede his life to his father Zeus to allow him to give his immortality to his brother, or to ensure that he could reach him in the underworld. Zeus, struck by the strength of their indissoluble bond, gave the twins the opportunity to spend eternity together, living one day in Hades and one day in Olympus.
A lead single from the release is the track “Oxygen”, alluding to the difficult times the artist went through during the creation of the album as a whole, this track is written in tribute to his father who sadly passed away. A departure from the upbeat pop blast the album offers, “Oxygen” sees MYKY weave a delicate intimacy into the release, with a poignant and emotive dedication to a lost loved one.
Commenting on “Oxygen” he shares, “For me, this song is a deeply emotional experience. In a way, it holds inside two voices: it’s the daddy’s lullaby, to cradle into sleep his “little baby boy” after some bad dream, reminding him that he’s made for the stars, and that he’s as strong as their mutual love; but it’s also the son’s heartbreaking cry to reach his father beyond the stars. To remind who listens (and himself) that love is stronger than anything.”

The symbology of the album carries in itself both the idea of immortality and the idea of death, two indivisible faces of a single element, as if to affirm that death is only the necessary transition to immortality. Even today, Castor and Pollux are depicted eternally embraced in the constellation of Gemini, united for eternity.
Duality, ties, connection, love, eternity are the themes that bind like a web of golden threads the six songs that make up the album. MYKY comments, “In the songs that make up my new album I talk about stars, gold, unbreakable ties, unbreakable bonds, light and darkness, and of course love, which is the engine of the universe. Talking about connections at a time when we have been for too long at a distance and continue to distance for too long, is in some ways a challenge but also an exaltation of what is most beautiful: the bond, the connection between bond, the bond between fellow human beings, between people in general. Songwriting for me is always therapeutic, and this time in particular, music is more than ever a lifeline.”
He adds, “‘Gemini’ is like a lotus flower, like a glimmer of light in the midst of darkness. I wrote these songs during one of the most difficult times for me, and because of that, every single note is meant to celebrate LIFE, light and everything beautiful around me.”
With Gemini (Part I Castor), MYKY crafts an impeccable pop journey that bends from the upbeat and catchy anthems of “The One” and “Gemini” to the reflective and vulnerability of “Oxygen” on a release that offers hook-driven melodic writing and rhythm-focused instrumentation to create a worthy contemporary work.
