StaJe‘s artistic journey has been peppered with hurdles and hard times yet his perseverance and sheer determination has brought him to where he is today. A South Carolina native, he’s had an interest in music from an early age, owing to his mother being a talented musician and stirring his passion.
Despite also being a gifted athlete, he upped and left for the shining lights LA to pursue music. He was the victim of the city’s unforgiving dark side and quickly found himself living day by day on Skid Row where he stayed for months searching for a way out. With the kindness of an old college friend, he was given a place to crash and managed to secure a job, pulling himself out of the darkness.
When music could finally become his main focus, he began to find the success and recognition he set out to seek. With his debut single “Keisha”, he hit the Global Billboard Charts and going on to release more music to positive reception.
Now he brings us his latest work, a collaboration with Californian artist Tailor, who’s struggled with a speech impediment and also overcome homelessness before finding his feet. An accomplished audio engineer, Tailor heads the new studio Parallel Sound where he aims to bring out the best of other artists.
As well as credits for the likes of Young Go and Biz Levin, he writes, produces, mixes and masters all of his own music.
The pair have worked on a collaborative album, titled Call Me At Midnight, and have dropped the first single from the forthcoming record with the track “What You Like”. The first taste of their partnership, “What You Like” is a smooth and grooving Future R&B effort full of melody-driven writing and pop sensibilities to offer an uplifting sensational jam.
The single is accompanied by a music video adding a lighthearted vibe and 80’s flare to the sound.
Commenting on the track, they offer, “We wanted something sensual. Something persuasive. We will do whatever you like, whatever you want and that will be enough for us.”
