New York City-based composer and multi-instrumentalist producer Howard Alper has recently been working on his latest musical project $YNDRM. As an accomplished drummer and veteran of live stage and studio, his list of previous collaborations spans an array of genres ranging from Rock to Funk to R&B and Electronica with artists such as Living Colour vocalist Corey Glover, synthwave artist GOCCO and experimental electronic band Electric Powered Soul.
With his latest endeavour, he reaches into an Avant-Rocktronic universe, drawing inspiration from the late 70’s work of artists such as Peter Gabriel, David Bowie and Brian Eno.
The Facade album, $YNDRM’s initial offering, incorporates live elements such as acoustic drums and electric guitar meeting head on with drum programming, synthesis and unusual effects. With an awareness of the past and an eye on the future, $YNDRM is a forward motion creator informed by the lineage of previous artists that released experimental pop music. “Facade” is a collection of compositions with evocative sounds, rhythms and modern production twists and turns sure to elicit an emotional response from listeners across the globe.
On Facade, $YNDRM delivers an expansive sonic journey filtered through a piquant lens. Unchained by genres or a desire to emulate anything else, his debut LP drips originality throughout. Colourful instrumentation and shifting rhythms work to create a dynamic and engaging listening experience that bends from the playful to the eerie on this exceptional outing.
Commenting on the release, the artist offers, “My goal was to develop and album inspired by my heroes and also one that displayed a unique twist on the Art-Rock genre.”
