Toronto-based pop artist Ally Cribb creates music with a maturity and a voice heavy with soul beyond her sixteen years. Inheriting her passion for music from her father who is a musician and writer, she grew up surrounded by the Canadian city’s diverse music scene. “What I do is all about creativity and imagination: two things that can be found and fostered anywhere,” she shares. “Music is the one thing I wanted to be really good at. I’ve been working harder than ever to advance my abilities to write and create.”
She started signing lessons at the age of eight and draws influence from the likes of Taylor Swift and Joni Mitchell while threading her own experiences into her writing to add sensitivity and resonance in her music. With her debut offering, she released a cover of Radiohead‘s “Creep”, transforming the track beyond recognition, adding newfound dimensions of vulnerability and fragility to the original.
Now with her first original music, she brings us her debut single “Bigger”, a strong sonic departure from the stripped back foundations of her previous cover.
Working with her father, who produced the track which is lifted from her upcoming EP Unbroken, “Bigger” is an anthemic ballad with rousing pop inflections. Infectiously catchy yet deeply personal, her introduction to the music scene carries a universal wisdom that is bound to resonate. An accomplished vocalist and now a certified composer, with “Bigger” she makes a statement that she’s here to deliver perfectly crafted indie pop music.
Commenting on the new single, she offers, “Bigger is about breaking through the obstacles that convince us to accept less than what we are. I’ve come to understand failure as a source of strength instead of something I should be scared of.”
Adding, “I wrote this thinking about the many things I want to accomplish in my life, and the feeling I get when I close my eyes and picture myself standing on a big stage, staring out into a sea of faces. That’s my dream. And however challenging it might be getting there, this song is my own reminder that perseverance and dedication are stronger than the fear of failure.”
