London-based electronic duo Eckotrigger is formed of producer and instrumentalist Paul Dogra and vocalist and lyricist Joel Alexander. After years of being part of other bands, the pair grew tired of the difficulties that came from a band experience and decided to link up out of shared influences and appreciation of artists such as Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure and David Bowie to name a few.
They kicked off their partnership not as Eckotrigger but initially as The Ultra and signed to London imprint Platform Records which saw the pair release two EPs, including When The World Turns Out Its Lights. One of their lead singles, “Universe In Two”, was released to critical acclaim, gaining radio support worldwide and used in the trailer for the video game Die Young.
When the world stood still with the pandemic, they decided to rebrand, reshaping their sound and setup with the addition of a drummer for live shows and releasing a new debut single under the Eckotrigger moniker with “Collide”. Their debut, and its conception was widely discussed on radio stations, focusing on mental health and addiction. This momentum also saw the duo sign to US label and Sony Music affiliate SteadyGrind Music.
With the finishing touches on an upcoming EP falling into place, they bring us their new single “New Narcissism”, a powerful and dazzling foray into the alternative electronic world. Drawing on their desire to make music that intrigues, challenges and evokes myriad musical textures, with “New Narcissism” they cut a driving electronic piece full of punching rhythm and synths, wrapped up in melodic writing.
