Born in New York City, raised in Fort Lauderdale in Florida, the story of Nero Simon also has Latin American roots with immigrant parents. Now based in Atlanta, Georgia, he’s formed the eight-piece band known as Nero Simon and the Sunsetters who offer an island sound that fuses elements of rock, folk, funk and Americana to create a breezy sound of delicately written and arranged music.
With a nod to the classic soft rock sound of the 70s and 80s, the band create a timeless sound that’s still modern, meaningful and relevant to listeners today. With their debut album, Treasure Chest ready for release, they dropped the first taste of their upcoming full-length with the single “Starboard (Escape to Cozumel)” towards the end of last year.
Now they bring us the second single, the opening and title track of the album, with “Treasure Chest”. Soft acoustic guitars strum to the beat of conga drums as singer Nero Simon romantically croons the opening lyrics “We said I love you, for the first time, on the Seven Mile Bridge.”
And thus begins Treasure Chest. Drawing on the summers he spent as a teenager wandering the marinas in Florida, “Treasure Chest” recounts the story of two lovers entwined on a passionate island journey through the Florida Keys, on a quest to rekindle a love gone by.
Airy Island vibes define this delightful new track that sees silky saxophone add Caribbean flavour to a folk rock ballad that has the feel of an instant classic. Rhythmic and catchy, on “Treasure Chest”, Nero Simon’s outfit offer the very best of their songwriting and performance flair that heightens the anticipation of their forthcoming album release even further.
