To those who don’t speak Swedish, the word ‘avresa’ may mean nothing at all. However, when translated into English, it means the departure for embarking on a new adventure, which makes it the perfect pseudonym for Sydney-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who adventured out of his four piece alt rock band into the world as a solo artist.
The Australian artist Avresa has released a string of singles with his solo endeavour, offering a well-crafted indie rock sound. Having shelved celebrations, travel and dreams during the pandemic, he used his experience adjusting to the struggles posed by lockdowns as influence for his latest single “Find Something”.
As the album closer for his upcoming debut LP, titled Perspective, the new single is a significant track
for the artist. It’s an emotional roller-coaster about the struggle to find positivity, purpose and meaning through difficult days and dark times.
Finding some light through the darkness and ultimately discovering where the positives lie is where this sonic journey takes the listener. With a hook-driven sound, Avresa lays down delicate writing and intricate instrumentation on this epic melodic rock outing.
Alluding to the search for something the song touches on, he offers, “Anything can give you a sense of purpose, meaning, inspiration or positive feeling. It really could be anything, but not being able to identify what that is would be devastating. What, or who, is your ‘something’?”
