At sixteen-years-old, Charlie Tyler went to an Ellie Goulding concert and was immediately transfixed, determined to become a musician herself. Picking up a Ukulele to learn and signing at local country fairs around the rural Cornish village where she was raised, she then taught herself guitar and piano to pursue her passion for songwriting.
Taking inspiration from the likes of Kate Bush, Stevie Nicks, Alanis Morrisette and Carole King, Charlie aims to produce modern pop music influenced by those magical performers. After meeting songwriter and producer, Russell James Williams in April of last year, the two became a writing partnership providing the perfect platform for her beautiful, haunting vocal style.
With this bountiful pairing, the music flowed quickly, with her debut EP With All That Lonely Held Inside followed up by her latest collection of songs only two months later. Her new EP, Surrender The Ghosts, offers the freshness and originality of self-produced music and demonstrates a musician with bags of creative energy.
Delivering her trademark melody-focused vocals, she spins Fleetwood Mac-esque harmonic writing on a release that threads in nods to her influences while sounding wholly original and modern. A haunting indie pop release, Surrender The Ghosts, blends upbeat bouncing rhythms, shimmering synth arrangements and powerfully catchy vocal leads.
Commenting on the release, Charlie shares, “I really strive to create authentic and honest music that is completely instrument and chord lead, with my writing partner Russell James Williams. We really feel as though the music we create has something much more unique to offer and the alternative pop feel that we have managed to develop really helps to show the artistry within each composition.”
