Dark Pop from HVIRESS

Brighton-based duo HVIRESS offer a unique dark electronic pop sound driven by the ethereal and snarled vocals both the dual-vocalists Mishkin Fitzgerald (of Birdeatsbaby) and Hana Piranha. Both coming from sheltered and opposing – one Catholic, one Protestant – religious backgrounds, they’ve been friends and a writing force since touring together in 2013.

Originally exploring their limited exposure to popular culture through the rebellious nature of rock music to express their inner turmoil, that journey came to an end in 2016 due to the intensity and lifestyle becoming too much. Taking a step back to reassess their creative, and now romantic situation they embraced their new found interest in spiritually and the occult, giving them a sharp new focus for their musical vision.

With that awakening, the new dark electronic project now known as HVIRESS was born. Linking up with composer and producer Garry Mitchell (also part of Birdeatsbaby) they wrote their first self-titled EP, enlisting LA songwritier and producer Evan Rodaniche to mix the release.

Now they return with their second single “Golden Apple”, a haunting alternative pop outing tinged with dissonance and dark electronic atmosphere. The new track builds on the writing outlook of the project that aims to celebrate truth and beauty as it mourns the mortal and the immoral.

Collaborating again with Scott Chalmers to create an unnerving music video, they deliver an eerie and rattling visual pairing for a sound that’s both moody and memorable. Opening with a sugary pastel-soaked setting, the video descends into contrasting darkness with the occult territory firmly at the forefront, perfectly reflecting the framing of the song.
